“In general, prayers made by an assembly of many practitioners are very powerful and cannot be compared to the prayers of one or two people. The scriptures give the analogy of a broom. If we try to clean a floor with a few bristles we shall make little progress, but if we gather many bristles to make a broom we shall be successful.”—Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Tara is a female Buddha, a manifestation of the ultimate wisdom of all the Buddhas. Her name means "Rescuer" because she rescues us from all outer and inner fears. Ultimately she rescues us from all suffering and guides us to full enlightenment. Like a mother she protects us from all internal and external dangers; she provides us with all the necessary conditions for our spiritual training, and guides us and inspires us with her blessings as we progress along the spiritual path. These prayers include praises to the twenty-one manifestations of Tara. Because these are Sutra, the actual words of Buddha, they are particularly powerful and blessed.

This is a special practice of relying upon our Spiritual Guide as a Buddha and making praises and requests, but it also contains beautiful essential instructions on all the stages of the path to enlightenment and training the mind, as well as both the generation stage and completion stage of Highest Yoga Tantra.
We also make specific prayers for our friends, family members, Sangha, and others who are suffering or have died. This practice includes a tsog (food) offering which you can virtually engage in through your imagination.

Medicine Buddha is a Buddha Doctor whose function is to release living beings from outer and inner sickness by bestowing blessings upon them. By relying upon Medicine Buddha sincerely, living beings in these impure times can be cured of heavy physical and mental disease, and find release from the internal pain of the three poisons: attachment, anger and ignorance. They can also receive protection from many other dangers and obstacles. By practicing this Medicine Buddha Sadhana sincerely, we receive a special power of body, speech and mind, which we can then use to help others through healing actions.

29th of each month
This monthly practice takes place on or close to the 29th of each month, so-called Protector Day, and consists principally of prayers to our Dharma Protector, the Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden.
A Dharma Protector is an emanation of a Buddha or Bodhisattva whose main functions are to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent practitioners from attaining spiritual realizations, and to arrange all the necessary conditions for their practice.
Dorje Shugden is a Dharma Protector, which means he specializes in helping us keep our minds off delusions and on Dharma. One way he does this is by helping us transform all appearances into the spiritual path, opening our wisdom eyes so that we know what to do with each situation as it arises, generating Dharma minds such as renunciation, compassion, or wisdom.
This practice includes a tsog offering, so you can imagine a vegetarian food offering with you if you wish.
You can find the Melodious Drum Prayers booklet on Tharpa.com and in our bookstore.

This sadhana includes two practices revealed by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. The first is a special Guru yoga in which we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa, who himself is a manifestation of Manjushri. By relying on this practice, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit and receive blessings. In this way, we shall naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra, and in particular we shall attain a very special Dharma wisdom.
The second practice is a method for relying upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. Through this, we can overcome obstacles to our practice and create favorable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our Dharma realizations. If we rely upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden sincerely, our faith in Je Tsongkhapa will naturally increase and we shall easily gain experience of the pure Buddhadharma transmitted directly to Je Tsongkhapa by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri.
These two practices are the very essence of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. If we practice them regularly and sincerely, we shall reap a rich harvest of pure Dharma realizations, and eventually come to experience the supreme joy of enlightenment.
This practice includes a tsog offering, so you can imagine a vegetarian food offering with you if you wish.
You can find the Wishfulfilling Jewel booklet on Tharpa.com and in our bookstore.
