Meditation and Buddhism in Portland

Drop-in Classes

Everyone welcome! Meditation classes are offered on Sunday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. These classes are suitable for all individuals whatever their level of interest, from those who seek simple relaxation to those who wish to find lasting inner peace (what to expect at a class). We offer Buddha’s timeless teachings in a simple, practical way to help solve daily problems and create the real peace and happiness we all long for.

Mahasiddha Kadampa Buddhist Center has arisen from the pure intention and vision of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union, and is dedicated to the happiness and freedom from suffering of every living being. Weʼve been in Portland since 1997 offering activities such as drop-in meditation classes, day courses, retreats, and chanted prayers for the Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike.

Check our current calendar for a full listing of all the events at Mahasiddha.

HUNDRED-YEAR SNOW, LANTERN TOWER APPEARING, GEN-LA RETURNS

A hundred-year snow fell and blanketed the site. Though it slowed construction work for a while, it reminded us of what a special place IKRC Grand Canyon is for retreat

When the snow falls, silence falls and everything outside becomes peaceful. When the Temple is completed and the retreat center is thriving thousands and thousands of people will find deep inner peace in this special place.

TEMPLE PROGRESS
Despite the snow, great progress has been made by the construction teams who have been busy completing:

- Framework on each level of outside of temple
- Parapet wall cap
- Facia for gold trim
- Window casings
- Octagon columns below each roof line & on top of each roof level for vajras to sit
- Interior ceiling & walls
- Plumbing in ritual prep and mechanical rooms

ART UPDATE
Meanwhile, here is the latest update from the Art Studio:

'The big snow could not keep the artists away from the studio. The large Dharma Wheel is nearly completed by 5 dedicated volunteers.

'Returning volunteers gilded another deer and the auspicious symbols look stunning. Pieces of the lantern await gilding as do 5 remaining vajras.

'Visitors from as far away as France are here to help. And more volunteers from the US, Mexico and Brazil are headed our way to help complete the gilding by the end of May.

'We’re busy, but very happy!'

GEN-LA RETURNS
After many weeks away Gen-la Jampa returned to IKRC. He wasted no time in meeting with and encouraging the community, giving public talks, greeting local people at the open house and giving sublime teachings to both visitors and residents.

A powerful reminder of Venerable Geshe-la’s purpose in establishing this very special place.

Thank you Geshe-la.

Hello Everyone,
Due to inclement weather now and freezing temperatures overnight (ice) we will not be holding our Sunday Morning Drop-in Class or Buddha and Me Tea tomorrow morning. We will make a decision about OSG by noon tomorrow. At the moment it looks like the weather will be fine Monday morning and we plan to hold our Monday Morning Lamrim Drop-in class and Heart Jewel as usual.
Thank you!
