Meditation and Buddhism in Portland

Drop-in Classes

Everyone welcome! Meditation classes are offered on Sunday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. These classes are suitable for all individuals whatever their level of interest, from those who seek simple relaxation to those who wish to find lasting inner peace (what to expect at a class). We offer Buddha’s timeless teachings in a simple, practical way to help solve daily problems and create the real peace and happiness we all long for.

Mahasiddha Kadampa Buddhist Center has arisen from the pure intention and vision of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union, and is dedicated to the happiness and freedom from suffering of every living being. Weʼve been in Portland since 1997 offering activities such as drop-in meditation classes, day courses, retreats, and chanted prayers for the Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike.

Check our current calendar for a full listing of all the events at Mahasiddha.

Saturday, May 19th
In this very special event, Kadam Heather will grant the empowerment*of Buddha Shakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism in this world and give
commentary to the “Liberating Prayer”.

*What is an Empowerment?

Empowerments are special ritual ceremonies in which we receive a personal introduction to a particular Buddha and receive their blessings so that we may attain the same qualities as them in the future. Once we have received the blessings of a particular Buddha it is like they become a special, close friend and if we rely upon them we will receive their help and protection. If you have never been to an empowerment before, don’t worry, you will be guided in what to do during the actual ceremony. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Schedule:
Empowerment: 11:00-1:00
Lunch: (Provided for Everybody) 1:00-2:15pm
Commentary: 2:15-3:45pm
Break (tea, coffee, snacks provided) 3:45-4:15pm
Meditation: 4:15-5:00pm
