Everyone Welcome!

About Us

Our Purpose

Everyone welcome!  Meditation classes are offered on Sunday mornings, Tuesday and
Thursday evenings. These classes are suitable for all individuals whatever their level of
interest, from those who seek simple relaxation to those who wish to find lasting inner
peace (what to expect at a class). We offer Buddha’s timeless teachings in a simple, practical way to help solve daily problems and create the real peace and happiness we all long for.

Mahasiddha Kadampa Buddhist Center has arisen from the pure intention and vision of
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition –
International Kadampa Buddhist Union, and is dedicated to the happiness and freedom
from suffering of every living being. Weʼve been in Portland since 1997 offering activities
such as drop-in meditation classes, day courses, retreats, and chanted prayers for the
Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike.

Check our current calendar for a full listing of all the events at Mahasiddha.

Our Saturday Foundation Program is starting a new book this Saturday, September 17th at 3:00pm.

"How to Understand the Mind" by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Foundation Program is ideal for those who have gained a basic understanding of Kadampa Buddhism through General Program classes, but who wish to learn more and make a deeper commitment to their practice. Through regular teachings, meditation, systematic study and group discussion, the FP offers support and structure to our spiritual life. This program affords an opportunity to gain authentic experience of Dharma without abandoning our modern lifestyle.
Warm friendships develop as students inspire each other, sharing insights and experiences of the spiritual path.

Feel free to check this class out for free this Saturday and see if its a good fit for you. September 17th!

We want to be happy all the time, even during sleep. How can we do this? We can do this through training in meditation because meditation makes our mind peaceful, and when our mind is peaceful we are happy all the time, even if our external conditions are poor. On the other hand, when our mind is not peaceful we are not happy, even if our external conditions are excellent. We can understand this through our own experience. Since the actual method to make our mind peaceful is training in meditation, we should apply effort to training in meditation.
